Audio Innovations made some of Britain's finest valve amplifiers. The P1 moving magnet phono pre-amplifier dates from around 1993 and is built around one Yugoslavian EI branded 12AX7EG valve and one Golden Dragon 6922 valve. All components are of a very high pedigree and the build quality is superb. The P2, the next model up, would have cost you £750 (I have not been able to find any pricing information on the P1). This one sounds amazing and easily eclipses a great many phonostages including the likes of the Musical Fidelity X-LP and the Pro-ject phono box. Noise and hum are virtually absent, which is suprising for a valve design. However, I must draw your attention to a minor issue - this example has a noisy mains transformer that buzzes slightly. It won't bother you when listening, but you will notice it when you're not listening. If you were to remove the metal grill, I suspect it would be significantly less. It has not been an issue for me.
