Carver M400 m 400 Magnetic Field Power Amplifier m-400 Picture(s) and Description:

For sale is a Carver M-400 Magnetic Field Power Amplifier My wife's parents are moving and so are cleaning out the storage closets. This is one of the items. According to her father, It was originally purchased by him in the 70's at a local HI-FI store around Elgin, IL. It was used for about 10 years until the third child was born and then his stereo room had to make way for another play space. That was 1988. Since then, it has been in a temperature controlled storage closet sealed in a rubbermaid tub. When he retired it, he said it played as beautifully as the the day he bought it. Theres was no dust on it, and a quick spray of compressed air shot through the vents produced no dust internally. It is very clean. Cosmetically it is in nice shape. there are a few lights scuffs in the nicely grained metak but wouldnt come up in pictures. ther front is nearly perfect though. one side has a couple scratches. Being as they are moving, there was no way for him to test it. and given it's age it is being sold as-is, with no returns. theres no way to test it. the house is packed up in boxes. so for the sake of full disclosure it is unested and sold as-is with no returns. it will be expertly packed and shipped with USPS PRIORITY 2-3 DAY SHIPPING FOR A FLAT RATE OF $20 anywhere in the contiguous US (lower 48 states, no out of country shipping, sorry). thats more than fair considering its $12 in packaging materials and about $40 to get it to california and $35 to DC. here are the stats on the amplifier: power output: 201W RMS x 2 channels @ 8 ohms; 260W @4 ohms; 450W @ 2 ohms; from 20Hz to 20kHz with no more than .05% total harmonic distortion. 500W when in mono operation @ 8 ohms Power at clipping: 250W RMS per channel into 8 ohms at 1kHz. 300W/ ch. into 4 ohms. 500W/ch. into 2 ohms. THD: >.05% Transient intermodulation distortion: unmeasurable This amp really is a beast, and is a great example of Bob Carver's work that changed the way we think about solid state amplification. HAPPY BIDDING, AND GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
