Pioneer SX-880 Vintage Hi-Fi Stereo Receiver SX880 NICE Pioneer SX-880 Auction Consists of : Pioneer SX-880 Stereo Receiver Pioneer : a person or group that originates or helps open up a new line of thought or activity or a new method or technical development. The originators of Pioneer Electronics Corporation chose this name carefully, it was the one word that best described their ambitions. It was much more than a name, it was a motto that they would strive to fulfill in every product they produced. Today, over 65 years later, Pioneer is recognized as a leader in technology advancements in the consumer electronics industry because of their undying determination to live up to this name. They have numerous Worlds Firsts credited to them and they have greatly influenced and excelled the path of audio componentry. Over their long history they have created countless imaginative and first-rate products which have irrefutably won the hearts and ears of the worlds elite audiophiles. The SX series is arguably the greatest stereo receiver line to ever come out of the Hi-Fi Golden Era. These receivers were built to the highest standards and capable of the utmost sonic performance, while remaining extremely flexible. They ranged in size and power from the modest SX-400 series to the massive SX-1980 The Pioneer SX-880 was released in 1979 with a selling price of $475.00. It was one of Pioneers most logical-choice receivers as it contained the technology and features of its larger siblings, yet not the exorbitant power output which added significant cost and, in an era of efficient speakers, was largely unnecessary. The 880 boasts a conservatively rate 60 watt RMS per channel amplifier section with an extraordinarily flexible preamp section and world class AM/FM tuner section. Sonically the SX-880 is a phenomenal receiver. It portrays the entire audible range with a degree of fidelity and sonic cleanliness you would expect from much higher priced separates. Today the SX-880 is rightfully regarded as one of the finest Silver Era greats and is still considered one of the best values on the used marketplace. Some of its many features and functions include: . Tone Control FET Minimizes Noise Pioneers no-compromise circuitry uses FET ' (Field Effect Transistor) in the first stage of the flat amplifier in the tone control section. When volume is altered, no additional noise occurs Low Filter The filter in the SX-880 is designed to cut noise in the low end without harming too much of musical content. Power Amplifier Delivers Clean 60 Watts (RMS) Per Channel With Low Distortion & High S/N Massive Power Supply Gives Low Frequency Signals Required Headroom Realistic sound reproduction in the low frequencies-the kind that you not only hear but also feel, is assured with the use of a heavy power supply section Power Protection Circuit Prevents Damage The SX-880 has a power relay type protection circuit (in place of fuses) to prevent the destruction or damage of power output transistors and connected speakers in the event of power-related mishaps. It is self restoring. High Performance FM Front End With Dual-Gate MOS FET & 3-Gang Tuning Capacitor Two distinct performance advantages are provided in the carefully designed FM front end of the tuner section in the Pioneer SX-880- high sensitivity and high selectively. The first guarantees clean, sensitive reception of weak or distant FM signals, while the second weeds out interference in areas where FM signals may be too strong. The RF amplifier uses a dual-gate MOS FET coupled with a precision 3-gang variable capacitor to achieve both of these prime requisites without compromise. Intermodulation distortion, arising in the nonlinear section of a tuner when a "ghost" station appears, is discouraged. The "ghost" is rejected and the station you want comes through clean and clear. FM IF Section With Three 2-Element Ceramic Filters & A Special IC FM Stereo Performance Upgraded With PLL (Phase Locked Loop) Pure Electronic FM Muting The annoying "static" noise heard between FM stations as you tune, and the "pop" and "thump" sounds heard as you tune past stations, are entirely eliminated by a special all electronic muting circuit. AM Reception Improved With Special Integrated Circuit Stable power output thanks to excellent AGC (Automatic Gain Control) characteristics regardless of input signal strength is guaranteed in the AM section of the SX-880 with the use of a Pioneer developed special Integrated Circuit. Improved AM sound is also assured with the use of a first-stage RF amplifier and a 2-gang variable capacitor. Pleasant, Efficient Design & Simple Operation A softly lighted dial scale, calibrated for FM-linear tuning ease in increments of 200kHz, and a simplified switch/control layout on the front panel, are two of the design elements that contribute not only to good looks but to increased user ease as well. The tuning mechanism employs a large, high-inertia flywheel and a lighted tuning indicator. Twin tuning meters are provided. The front panel is made of durable. easy-to-clean aluminum; side and top panels are finished in walnut veneer. Tape-to-Tape Dubbing a tape from Deck-1 to Deck-2 or vice versa is easy, The switch layout permits the monitoring of either deck or the listening to another source during dubbing Inputs Include PHONO, AUX, and the two tape Input/output circuits. Two sets of stereo SPEAKERS (A and B) may be connected and driven independently or simultaneously (A. B. A+B). LOUDNESS circuit (switched) compensates lows and highs during low-level listening to achieve flatter response to human ear. And Much More!
