Radford STA 25 Series III Stereo Valve Power Amplifier Picture(s) and Description:

I bought this amplifier a few years ago. It seems to be an early model, serial number D (I think) 102. I was told that it had originally been used for the sound system in an independent record shop. It was in working order and I used it for a while with the intention of overhauling it cosmetically and electronically. Then along came a 'minter' which I couldn't resist, and this one was boxed-up and put away in the workshop. I have just finished testing it, and with the exception of the missing valve (an ECF 82, which is not hard to get) it seems to be working ok. I substituted the other ECF 82 to check both channels, and both worked fine. However, I only ran it for about 15 minutes, mindful of the old capacitors etc. and the likelihood that some components may need to be replaced. You can see that the two large smoothing capacitors have been replaced (before I got it!) The two replacements are physically much smaller than the originals, so I'm sure that they ought to be changed. Also, many components underneath have been replaced over the years. The transformers appear to be original. It needs to be checked out by a competent person before using it regularly. As the pictures show, it is cosmetically a bit sad. It has been crudely repainted and deserves to be dismantled, rubbed-down and resprayed. The chrome on the carrying handles is pitted and either needs rechroming or cleaning and lacquering to prevent further corrosion. The EL34's are National Electronics brand (3) and one Tesla. The EF86's are Edicron and Mullard, and the ECF82 (one is missing) is a Mullard. I would say again that whilst I have had this working, it needs a service before use. Please don't expect this to be 'plug & play' - only bid if you are prepared to have it serviced before use. It really is a great project with the potential to be a fantastic amplifier. I have too many projects for the time I have available! I have the matching preamp somewhere and I will list that when I can find it! Please ask if you need any more information. I can ship to most countries but remember this is heavy (shipping weight about 20 kg.) and shipping outside Europe will be expensive. As a guide, France costs £32, Italy £45, USA and Canada £130 and China £160 (all include insurance,) but please ask for other countries.
