This is a nice example of the sought-after classic SME Series 2 3012 tonearm, in full working order. The additional length of the 3012, compared with the more common 9" arm, reduces distortion from tangential tracking error as the arm tracks towards the centre of the record. As a consequence, a larger plinth is necessary to allow for the spacing of the arm from the turntable, but it certainly looks impressive! It is in very clean condition, although some time in the past it has acquired some tarnish marks, mainly on the bedplate and pillar. If you study the close-up pictures, these marks can be seen as feint spots. I don't think that they are too obtrusive, but I'm pointing them out for the sake of an accurate description.There are a couple of light scratches on the arm tube - again nothing ugly. Overall, although not 'mint,' I think it looks very good. Most importantly, everything works well. The bearings move freely and the cueing still has its damped action (so the arm lowers slowly as the cueing lever is released.)I've recently fitted a new flexible coupling to the rear extension of the arm (so there is no sagging of the main counterweight,) and also a set of new rubber mounting grommets. It is all ready for use. It comes with a set of four correct SME chrome fixing screws, as well as the signal leads and detachable headshell. There are also a pair of Allen keys for adjustment. I only have a copy of the manual and mounting template I printed-off from a CD of manuals I once bought on Ebay, so I'll include these. There is no original box, but it will be packaged securely.
