128562805489094090 Vintage MARANTZ 2270 Home Audio Receiver NO RESERVE

Up for auction is this nice Marantz 2270 receiver, serial # 36516 with blue dial and silk-screened faceplate markings. All white specks on the back are simply lint from the cotton cloth I used to dust the chassis off. I'm not an audiophile or collector, but have appreciated and used vintage 1970s components for almost 15 years now...after "seeing the light" and promptly donating my late-1980s digital receiver, cheap speakers, CD player, and CDs to the thrift store. It's been 70s receivers, 70s turntables, and 60s/70s speakers from then on, in various configurations as I learned and upgraded along the way. If you require some reviews, which indicate strong consensus of the 2270's quality Click Here I bought this recently from the original owner who said he bought it in the "early 1970s". Said he went to an A/V surround system about 7 years ago and stored this unit in his garage ever since. He had my unspoken sympathies when mentioning his new Sony A/V Surround system...so I knew I had to rescue this 2270. He said he's never had it serviced, and it was working fine when he put it in storage. He also said a few bulbs were burnt out, etc. Due to a move two years ago, I'm currently without any components besides a pair of speakers. So, this has been tested on FM/AM radio only. I hooked it up last night and enjoyed about 5 1/2 hours of fabulous-sounding radio tunes (even though I can't stand most radio stations these days, mostly due to the commercials and programming). It was like I was hearing the songs for the first time. My AR-2 era, vintage ADC 303AX speakers are lower-end (yet highly under-rated on a working man's budget, I believe), so I can only imagine how terrific this 2270 would sound through a high-end pair of loudspeakers. My office is in a basement location, 50 miles from downtown Chicago...yet I was pulling in all the normal stations I scan daily while in my car. From Classical, to Jazz, to Rock. The first two tunes on my "test drive" of this 2270 last night were Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" followed by Stevie Wonder's "Superstition". I've heard both on the radio a million times in the past 20 years...but they sounded like they never have before. I tested both speaker outputs (labeled Main and Remote, but basically A & B) for about 2 hours each. Both channels sound fine. The amp was working fine, I can assure you. I was never past 11 o'clock on the volume, because I could hear the music outside from my basement office, with all windows closed. The cosmetics and lamp conditions support the man's story of it never being serviced. As the face panel lamps began to burn out he simply dealt with the cosmetic quirks. The interior electrical components shows quite a bit of dust, etc., as you'd expect. The blue panel/dial has a couple burnt out lamps. All function/indicator lamps work...with the exception of the "Stereo" tuning lamp, which is burnt out. Signal Strength and FM Tuning meters work fine, as shown. The FM dial is about 1/8" off on tuning accuracy, and needs to be adjusted. All Loudness, Muting, Filter, etc. functions are audibly working, although I haven't bench tested this since that's a bit beyond my knowledge level. Power switch works fine. All the other push-button switches are working, although the "Multipath" button does not stay clicked-in when pressed. I have no idea what Multipath means, so I'm unsure what the issue is. The speaker buttons are functional, but need a clean and lube. The dial pots are fairly clean, with little-to-no static. The Gyro tuning dial works fine. In other words, this 2270 is an original, working, unserviced survivor. So a clean, lube, and adjustment...as part of basic maintenance, is needed. As with any vintage quality item, such as a BMW, Porsche, Saab, Mercedes, or Volvo...as well as quality vintage home-audio components, a little maintenance is expected. The face plate is in very good condition, with a few minor scuffs and scrapes, as-shown. The silk-screened marks are very nice...with the only significant wear being on the "Power" button. The metal cabinet is free of dents. The bottom of chassis is very clean, with no rust or dents. Original cord and plug are fine...just a few specks of paint from the past 30+ years. Plug is marked "Marantz". Please let me know if you require additional photos and/or information...and keep in mind that the shipping charge includes full insurance coverage.
